Harry Potter 7… here finally… Review

July 28th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in My Reviews

So, I finally recieved my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on the 25th and the courier guy got a nice thrashing from my dad about the fact that every minute of delay costs the book its value… how true..Lets get on to the book then, shall we…

Harry Potter 7 Harry Potter and the Deatly Hallows

To look at its not as huge as the 5th and 6th ones were (wasnt quite fond of them,in any case). Its 607 pages to be precise.

The story kicks of on a good note with Harry getting rid of the Durslely’s for good and his rescue to the Burrow…and the mayhem begins. The book, to me, is quite pacy… with the events unfolding at a speed which startled me, and I believe most Potter fans must have been caught off their guard, particularly after the way the 5th and the 6th book crawled.

Rowling bumps off a load of charecters.. 9, I guess. I’m not revelaing much, go read the book if you have to know.. it’ll rob you of the suspense. You deserve it…

She explores Harry’s and Voldemort’s strengths and weaknesses with amazing alacrity…. answers many unanswered questions about the Invisibility cloak, why Dumbledore left clues instead of answers, Snape, James and Lily and a lot of other stuff.

She also does the smart thing with an Ekta Kapoor style “Bees saal Baad”. Ok, its 19yrs later. But still, that prevents any wise crack on scripting Harry’s future. She’s got brains, that Rowling.

Thats all for my so called effort to summarize the book…I give it a 9/10. And you?

I’m waiting….

July 22nd, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in My World..

I ordered my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows a long time back from bsbazaar.com.(Run by fabmall.com actually, dont really trust Business Standard too much)

Bloomsbury Cover

I’m still waiting for it to arrive. I sent them an e-mail and they’re telling me that its dispatched and i’ll be getting it today. In the meanwhile i’m reading it off a PDF…

I dont quite like the idea of sitting in front of a monitor and reading a book… the strain gets into the eyes in no time. And i cant quite lift my comp and take it anywhere i like!

And my friends who did not pre-order the book have the real thing in their hands!! Boo! I hope i get my copy soon.

Gig Review PDV & Zygnema @ Musicians Mall

July 16th, 2007 | 12 Comments | Posted in The Mumbai Rock Scene

PDV’s (Pin Drop Violence, a heavy metal outfit from Mumbai) out with their new album Right 2 Riot and they’re going the whole hog promoting it by doing several shows in and around Mumbai.

The last one was on 15th June and i missed it cos of my health… but this time even acidity couldnt stop my head from banging, because i so wanted to see this crazy band live… so what if the stage was as large as a slightly oversized dining table..

Zygnema were the support act and they set the mood for the evening, they performed some OC’s and covered Sepultura’s Territory and Pantera’s Revolution Is My Name.

I must give a special mention to their lead guitarist, Siddharth. He belted out some very good riffs and amazingly melodic solos on his Jackson Soloist. I only wish the vocalist would have done a better sound check, ’cause i was standing on the front row and couldnt quite listen to the vocals clearly.

Next came PDV and they did a good sound check. And what followed was an hour of utter madness. I’ll say this right now, PDV can kick some serious butt..They opened with their hugely popular In Dependence and followed with some more OC’s and a brilliant cover of Lamb Of God’s As The Palaces Burn. They had a planned setlist but they played what the crowd wanted… I was a first timer to PDV’s gigs (yes, yes i was in hibernation all these years..), and was amazed to see the crowd’s response to their OC’s. Believe me, EVERY PinHead sings!

The place was a music shop and moshing was a strict no-no… But the crowd forgot their constraints and moshed, the only thing you could possibly do when such music is played, everything else be damned! Thankfully, nothing broken.

After the gig, I tried out the Jackson RR3 and the Dean Dimebag ML!(anyone can try out the guitars, and there are many good ones on display at Musician’s Mall). Both were kickass and i’ll just say, i’m not qualified enough to talk about the merits of the 2 guitars..and whilst leaving, i also brought PDV’s CD and took the band members autographs. All of them are really funny and scribbled things like “Respect your parents”, “Dont get like us!”. The drummer drew a double bass drum kit as part of his signature…

All I can say is, Thank you for the music. \m/. Do check out the pics and post your comments..(if u cant see the pics, just right click on the little red coloured “x” and click “Show Picture”)
